A Message From The Couple

Welcome to Our Wedding Celebration in Punta Cana!

If you know us, you know our story has been one of distance, but we have turned each milestone into an adventure.

Raised in Michigan and Florida, we built our relationship across miles — finding connection through countless flights, phone calls, and visits that made every reunion feel like home.

Travel has always been a part of who we are. Our first trip together was in Medellin, Colombia, where we said “I love you” to each other.

Angad proposed in Iceland, and we’ve spent birthdays at Sea, cruising through several countries together.

It feels only fitting to begin our next chapter surrounded by the beauty of Punta Cana, where we’ll gather for a three-day Sikh wedding celebration filled with love, music, and our dearest ones. Each day will honor tradition, culture, and the joy of bringing our worlds together under one sky.

Thank you for traveling from near and far to be with us. Your presence means more than words can express, and we can’t wait to celebrate love, family, and togetherness with you on the shores of the Caribbean.

With love and gratitude,

Gurleen & Angad

ITINERARY

THE WEDDING WEEK
Apr 23, 2026

Maiyaan

Time: TBD

Location: TBD

Maiyaan Dress Code: To match the festive spirit, we invite guests to dress in bright, vibrant colors — yellows, oranges, pinks, and other cheerful shades are perfect!

Women: Traditional Punjabi suits, lehengas, or sarees in lively colors.

Men: Kurta-pajamas or other traditional attire in bright tones.

Maiyaan” (ਮਾਈਆਂ) refers to a pre-wedding ceremony held before a Punjabi wedding — similar to a Haldi ceremony in other Indian traditions.

It’s a ritual of cleansing and beautification for the bride or groom.

Family and friends gather, sing traditional songs (boliyan), and apply a paste of turmeric (haldi), flour, and mustard oil to the bride or groom’s face, arms, and legs.

Jaggo & Sangeet Night

Time: TBD

Location: TBD

Dress Code: Both the Jaggo and Sangeet are full of energy, joy, and Punjabi tradition, so we invite guests to dress in bright and festive attire.

Women: Lehengas, sarees, or anarkalis in bold, cheerful colors — think reds, pinks, purples, and golds. Accessories and bangles are encouraged to add to the festive vibe!

Men: Kurta-pajamas, sherwanis, or traditional Indian attire in vibrant shades. Comfortable shoes are recommended for dancing.

Before the wedding ceremonies begin, we’ll kick off the celebrations with one of the most joyful and high-energy nights of all — the Jaggo and Sangeet!

Jaggo, meaning “wake up,” is a lively Punjabi pre-wedding tradition that literally wakes up the neighborhood with music, laughter, and dancing! The night is filled with colorful décor, dhol drums, singing, and family performances, as we celebrate the upcoming wedding with pure joy.

The Sangeet is the heart of the evening — a celebration of love, music, and family. Both sides come together to sing, dance, and perform, sharing stories through song and choreography. It’s a night of connection, laughter, and unforgettable memories — a perfect start to our wedding festivities in Punta Cana!

Anand Karaj

Time: TBD

Location: TBD

Dress Code: The Anand Karaj is a sacred and spiritual ceremony, so we kindly request guests to dress modestly and respectfully, while embracing the elegance of the occasion.

Women: Sarees, salwar kameez, lehengas, or other traditional attire are encouraged. Please ensure shoulders and knees are covered.

Men: Kurta-pajamas, sherwanis, or other traditional outfits are recommended.

Additional notes:

Head covering is required during the Anand Karaj. Scarves or dupattas will be provided if needed.

No shoes during the Anand Karaj, as guests sit on the floor during the ceremony.

The Anand Karaj, meaning “Blissful Union,” is the sacred Sikh wedding ceremony that joins two souls in love and harmony. Rooted in equality, spirituality, and devotion, it represents not just the union of two people, but the blending of two families and the guidance of the divine in their journey together.

The ceremony takes place in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Sikh holy scripture. During the Anand Karaj, the couple walks around the Guru Granth Sahib Ji four times, in a ritual called the Laavaan. Each round represents a stage of spiritual growth in marriage — from self-centered love to a deeper connection grounded in faith and oneness.

We feel so honored to share this beautiful tradition with you and can’t wait for you to experience the serenity and joy of our Anand Karaj in Punta Cana.

Men: Linen shirts, polos, shorts, or comfortable pants — casual but polished.

After a day full of love, laughter, and celebration, we’d love to unwind together and soak in the memories from the day. Join us for a low-key evening gathering — a relaxed, intimate way to end our wedding day.

OUR LOVE STORY

CAPTURED MOMENTS

Akhil and Bhavna’s love story begins from their college days. Akhil tried multiple times to get Bhavna’s attention and ultimately failed. Fast forward a few years, and fate decided to give it another shot. Akhil was invited to Bhavna’s 21st birthday, and in true Akhil fashion, he didn’t hold back. Confidently, he asked Bhavna if she’d be his plus one for the evening. What she didn’t know was that she was signing up to be his plus one for the rest of her life. They spent their whole first year just as “friends” , or as inside joke they used to call each other “fam”. Turns out, Bhavna had a crush on Akhil since high school but she was playing hard to get….for YEARS!!

Through their first year of being “friends,”, Bhavna was completing her MBA and Akhil was trying to get into Dental School. They built such a deep friendship and connection, that they became inseparable. Study sessions became dinners, dinners became late night phone calls, late night phone calls became all night phone calls. Their feelings grew and slowly but surely, they fell in love.

Eventually, a whole year later on Valentine’s Day, Akhil asked Bhavna to be his girlfriend (huge mistake, very expensive day).

From then on, their connection continued to deepen. Through every phase of life, building their careers, laughs, and all the growing pains, Bhavna and Akhil stuck by each other. Finally, after 7 years of being “fam”, as Akhil graduated Dental school, he knew that he had to make sure Bhavna knew how important she was to him. He saved for years to buy Bhavna’s engagement ring and was finally able to propose — thank god she said yes!

AND NOW! Bhavna and Akhil are throwing their BIG FAT INDIAN WEDDING in Cancun Mexico and are officially becoming Mr. & Mrs. “Fam”. They couldn’t imagine starting this new chapter of their lives without you by their side.
